Adult Length: The length of the average adults, from nosetip to tailtip.
Adult Height: Height of the average adults, from floor to top of head.
Adult Weight: Average weight of an adult (good luck getting any of the relevant individuals to admit this to you in person, though!)
Description: A brief description of an average specimen of the species.
Society: Brief description of their society.
Descended: Which species’ DNA the Ru-Loi absconded with to create them.
The Ru-LoiHomeworld: Gyfarl
World Description:</b> Somewhat smaller than Earth, but quite similar otherwise, except that the oxygen content is higher and the atmosphere therefore denser. Not enough that it would bother a human, however, and they would be welcome to visit if they so chose.
Adult Length: 45-55 feet
Adult Height: 15-20 feet
Adult Weight: 6-8 tons
Description: Tyrannosaurids covered with a fine, downy coat of protofeathers. Males have a crest and a featherless display patch down their throats and over their chests, whereas females lack these features. They have more substantial arms than the Earth-bound T.Rex, and make up for this with longer, thicker counterbalancing tails.
Society: Ru-Loi are largely solitary, except for the Festival-Time, when the females lay unfertilized eggs and the males compete to be the ones to fertilize them. Parentage is recorded to preclude incest, and then the kids are sent to the community Hatchery, where they are hatched, and sent to anyone who wants to raise a hatchling that year. Most households are what humans call ‘simgle-parent,’ as ‘true love’ is rare and thus mated pairs are also rare. When they are old enough, the hatchlings pick a trade and apprentice in it, and go on to become journeymen and masters and so on. The Ru-Loi are exceedingly skilled biotechnicians, a vocation they refer to as Lifemasters. The greatest Lifemasters are the likes of Lord Ashvrikaal (creator of the Ebonkit) and Lady Harikas, creator of the Ahurou. But they take other vocations, as well, and these others have been just as famous – it’s just that the most well-known Ru-Loi sare the Lifemasters.
Descended: N/A
The TherizintiHomeworld: Thyferrix
World Description: Thyferrix is a hot, dry world, much of its single continent taken up by the massive, inner desert. The coastlines are rugged and beautiful, and then there is a ring of rainforest which gives way to the desert. The Therizinti stay mostly in the rainforests, building settlements just on the edges, where the forest meets coast or desert, so as to avoid spoiling the forests themselves. Being largely herbivorous, they gather food from the forests, thus they have a vested interest in their upkeep – plus the forests are a big tourist draw, especially for the Ebonkits.
Adult Length: 13-15 feet
Adult Height: Quadrupedal: 4-5 feet
Bipedal: 11-13 feet
Adult Weight: 800-1,000 lbs
Description: Ursiform but reptilian, roughly the size of a large polar bear. Scaled mostly in earth tones, with white and greys seen on the coastal-descended Therizinti, and the desert-siders tending more towards tans and sandy colors. Therizint have a set of what look like sailless wings, with each ‘wingclaw’ ending in three-foot, wickedly sharp, biometal scytheclaws. Under their scales (which are quite tough) they have biometal ‘chainmail’ as well, and are pretty well indestructible.
Society: Surprisingly humanlike. Males and females pair off and keep family dwellings. Females lay eggs in nests in the home, which family members and friends come to coo over, and then they hold a big party when they hatch. Children are raised by their parents and their communities.
Descended: Therizinosaurus
The EbonkitHomeworld: Ebon
World Decription: Ebon has four continents and six major island chains, each of which is given over to one of the ten Ebonkit Clans, and was specifically terraformed towards that Clan’s needs, plus one continent that is Wasteland, a failed terraforming attempt.
• The Amino Clan claims the Yiao-kidask Archipelago, which has high mountains and soaring plateaus, coupled with deep valleys that let them climb freely as they please. The most famous of these is a valley larger then the Grand Canyon, which has tourist draw as a climbing desination. Yiao-kidask also has some of the largest Greatforests, the forests made of trees roughly the size of skyscrapers for which Ebon is known.
• The D’Sraik have another Archipelago, the Feldask, mostly made up of sunken reef-islands and partly-underwater cave systems that let them spend much of their time underwater, with one major island with a rather modern city that hosts most of their guests. Feldask is known mostly for its gleaming lagoons and marine life…most of which the D’Sraik gladly eat.
• The Ukris have one of the big continents, called Grrshask, which is dominated by a massive central desert, with constantly rolling dunes, and mostly known offworld for its Singing Dunes in the South (The continent is as talkative as its inhabitants!).
• The Arcaniss’s continent of Orlasir-rask has a bit of everything, but is mostly dominated by temperate forests and gleaming cities that meld strangely well with the forests. (They also boast the best shopping districts on Ebon.)
• The Riel-onlask Chain of islands that the Ux claim is largely mountains and soaring cloud-valleys. They are largely known for aerial sporting – parachuting, base-jumping, wingsuiting, and the like.
• The Valignat Clan’s Tranrask Continent is a volcanic apparent wasteland (but like the deserts of earth, the life is merely less obvious.). Surprisingly, they have quite a large tourist draw among extremists.
• Rauthrix Clan’s Banshask Islands are mostly swamps, and the Achuak Clan’s Orolorask Archipelago is much the same, with some rather gloomy rainforests thrown in as well. Banshask and Orolorask both have some of the highest concentrations of “Remainders” – the original lifeforms of Ebon before terraforming.
• Ulhar Clan holds sway over the Irao-kask Continent, which is ringed with volcanoes, the center of the continent comprised of a mountainous desert with several amazing spire formations that make for excellent camping.
• The Aussir hold the Mars’ikask Islands, which are close to the south pole of the world and very cold. Mars’ikask boasts amazing views (Ebon’s version of the Auroras are most often seen from Mars’ikask or Yiao-kidask.) and, surprisingly for someplace so cold…the greatest redlight districts on Ebon – possibly in all of Loian Space.
• The Wastelands – Irrsaulsk – are neutral ground and a land of extremes. Almost all of the animals are Remainders, and amazingly dangerous. Most of the terrain is volcanic and blasted, but it has several Greatforests, ruled over by Armor Barons (Har’salvisk) and Wraithtitans (Orrnsiv) and the like. Caution highly advised, and any non-Ebonkits must have permission and a pass to visit.
Adult Length: 20-27 feet
Adult Height: Quadrupedal: 3 ½ - 5 feet
Bipedal: 6 ½ - 10 feet
Adult Weight: 250-900 lbs
Description: Lanky, wiry, arboreal superpredators. Reptomammals covered with a soft coat of protofeathers that reflect the colors of their brightly-patterned skin, the Ebonkit are expressive, affectionate pack-dwellers the Ru-Loi created to be guerillas and shock troops – they were designed to get in fast, do as much damage as quickly as they could, and then let the ‘tanks’ like the Therizinti mop up. Their claws and the spines on their backs and tails are a biometal, and they have a layer of it under the enamel on their teeth, and they are known for the ten to twelve inch scytheclaws they sport on each foot. Most of the Ebonkit’s body length is their massive, whiplike, prehensile tails, which are on average twice as long as the individual is tall. Their brain matter extends down their spinal columns (hence the protective biometal spines), and they are highly intelligent – the average Ebonkit is a low-level genius by human standards. They are also venomous – the longest spine on their backs and tails carries venom, as well as the retractable forefangs. (Each Clan has a different venom.) They are also moderately-to-highly telepathic and empathic, to assist with working and living in a Pack.
Society: Pack-based, much like wolves, with an Alpha, Beta, on down to Omega. They are born after a 27-month pregnancy, usually in twinned male-female pairs who usually stay together the rest of their lives, and are therefore rarely without companionship – an Ebonkit can literally die of loneliness. Those not born with a twin make up about 10% of the population and are known as the Untwinned, and are regarded as good omens – great things are expected of them. Of the Untwinned, 90% are fully-functioning hermaphrodites, making up about 8-9% of the total population, and carrying no stigma whatsoever. They call this third gender the schft, and the males and females have been known to compete to catch a schft’s eye. (Most frequently, schft end up in triads, with a male and a female.) Ebonkit are affectionate and promiscuous – because a female cannot get pregnant unless she’s in heat, they tend to view sex as a pleasurable way of bonding, and generally attach no strings to it. They eventually settle down with a lifemate (or two, if there’s a schft involved) and this is the only person they will produce kits with, but they will still gladly accept an invitation to bed, so long as the other party understands there are no strings attached.
Descended: Various Dromaeosaurs and some marsupial and canid mammals.
